Dr. Benedict is a graduate of the 571 years old prestigious and one of the oldest and TOP TEN Medical Schools in Europe---UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW MEDICAL SCHOOL in Scotland, which in 1837 also Graduated Dr. James MacCune Smith, the First African American Physician in the City of New York. Dr. Benedict graduated in 1972 with the degrees Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and in 1973 became licensed to practice Medicine in England, Scotland and Wales. He also obtained Part 1 membership of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Great Britain. He completed a one-year Internship at Mount Sinai Hospital-City Hospital at Elmhurst, and a 4-years Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital-Downstate Medical Center. In 1976, during his Residency Training, he was certified to Practice Medicine and Surgery in the State of New York. He was Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1981. In 1991 he obtained a Masters Degree in Public Health from Columbia University in Manhattan, New York and has been a strong advocate of Public Health in the State. In 1979 he was an Attending and Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset and LIJ Health System, becoming the first black physician in the Department. He was also a past Chairman and Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York Institute of Technology, College of Osteopathic Medical School. Dr. Benedict was appointed by Nassau County Legislators in 2006 to serve as a Trustee of Nassau University Medical Center. In 2008 he was appointed by Governor Eliot Spitzer of the State of New York as a Council Member of the flagship State University of Stony Brook and Medical School in Suffolk County, Long Island for 4 years. He was re-appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York State for another 4 years term. In 2010, he was appointed by the New York State Senate to serve on the Maternal and Infant Care Advisory Council. In 2018 he was appointed as the first President of the 53 years old St. Lucy Catholic Church, Highland Beach in Florida. He is a seasoned Obstetrician and Gynecologist, recognized as one of New York's Top Doctors 2008 to 2013, consecutively. He delivered over a thousand babies and performed hundreds of Major and Minor Surgical procedures at NORTHSHORE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, Manhasset, his affiliated hospital for almost four decades. He serves for over three decades as a Consultant including Court Testimonies in Medical Malpractice Cases for Major Law Firms including the Attorney's General Office in the State of New York. He is licensed both in NEW YORK and FLORIDA STATES.
